Cash on Delivery does not show at checkout — what should I check?
COD in Payflow appears when the customer picks a shipping rate whose name contains your COD keyword. If it does not show, one of these is usually the reason.
1. COD Setup is Active, not Testing
Section titled “1. COD Setup is Active, not Testing”Open Payflow → Cash on Delivery Setup. In Testing, only your test storefront sees COD — customers do not. Set it to Active and save.
2. The COD payment method exists in Shopify
Section titled “2. The COD payment method exists in Shopify”Shopify admin → Settings → Payments → Manual payment methods must contain Cash on Delivery (COD) (or your own manual method), and COD Setup must point to it.
3. The keyword matches a shipping rate
Section titled “3. The keyword matches a shipping rate”The COD rate’s name must contain the keyword from COD Setup — e.g. the keyword “dobírka” matches “PPL – dobírka”. If no rate contains it, COD never appears. If every rate contains it (e.g. the keyword is the carrier’s name), COD appears with all of them, also without the fee — see COD fee not working.
4. The COD rate exists in every delivery profile and zone
Section titled “4. The COD rate exists in every delivery profile and zone”Shopify gives each product the rates of its delivery profile. If you have a custom profile (e.g. for large items) without the COD rate, a cart with those products has no COD rate, so COD does not show. Add the COD rate to every profile and zone that should offer COD in Settings → Shipping and delivery.
5. The cart has products that ship
Section titled “5. The cart has products that ship”A cart with only digital products, gift cards or services has no shipping step, so there is no COD rate to pick and COD cannot show. Check that the product has This is a physical product ticked.
6. No other app hides it
Section titled “6. No other app hides it”Other apps can add their own payment customizations — COD apps (e.g. COD King), Razorpay, PayU and others — that hide COD too. Open Settings → Payments → Payment customizations, switch other apps’ customizations off one at a time, and try again.
7. A restriction hides it on purpose
Section titled “7. A restriction hides it on purpose”COD Restrictions (Payflow Pro) hide COD by order value, country, products or customer. Check whether your test cart meets one of them.
Check it with your AI assistant
Section titled “Check it with your AI assistant”If you connected Claude or ChatGPT to Payflow (AI assistants), ask it “Why does Cash on Delivery not show?”. It runs these checks on your store and tells you which one fails.
