Quick Start: Install Payflow & Create Your First Rule

This guide walks you through installing Payflow and creating your first customization rule in under 5 minutes.

1. Install Payflow

Go to the Payflow listing on the Shopify App Store and click Add app. Approve the permissions when prompted.

2. Open Payflow in your Shopify admin

After installation, Payflow appears under Apps in your Shopify admin. Click it to open the dashboard.

3. Create your first customization

1. Click Create customization on the dashboard.

2. Choose a customization type:

   • Payment Customization — hide, rename, or reorder payment methods
   • Delivery Customization — hide, rename, or reorder shipping methods
   • Cash on Delivery Setup — dedicated tool for adding a flat COD fee at checkout
3. Give your customization a descriptive name (e.g. “Hide COD for orders over £200”).

Cash on Delivery fee?

The Cash on Delivery Setup type is purpose-built for merchants who want to charge an extra flat fee for COD orders. It handles the shipping-rate linking for you automatically. See the Cash on Delivery guide for a full walkthrough.

4. Add conditions

Under When the following conditions are met, pick a condition type (e.g. Shipping country, Total amount, Customer tag), choose an operator, and enter the value(s). If the rule should apply on every checkout, select Always — do not leave the conditions block empty.

• + Add AND condition — another requirement in the same branch (all must match)
• + Add OR group — a separate branch (rule runs when any branch matches)

5. Target the payment or shipping method

Choose which method(s) the rule applies to. You can pick from the Pre-defined list (auto-populated from your store’s active methods) or use Contains to match by partial name. See Payment Customization or Delivery Customization for full targeting details.

Combine actions

You can enable multiple actions (e.g. rename and re-order) in a single customization — they all share the same conditions. Toggle additional actions in the sidebar under Allow the following actions.

6. Save and test

Click Save. Payflow activates the Shopify Function automatically — your checkout reflects the new rule right away.

Tip

Go through your checkout as a customer would to verify the rule. Use your store’s Preview mode or place a test order.

Rule limit

Shopify allows up to 25 active customizations per type (payment, delivery, or payment instructions) across all apps in your store. See Limitations for details.
