How do I test a rule before customers see it?
A rule in Testing status runs only in your test storefront. Customers do not see it, and it does not take a slot of your plan’s active-rule limit.
Test a rule
Section titled “Test a rule”- Save the rule with status Testing.
- In the rule, click Open test storefront. It opens your store with a test marker in the cart.
- Use Add to cart and go to checkout from the cart or cart drawer. Buy now buttons can skip the cart and the test marker.
- Go through checkout to the step the rule acts on: payment rules after the address and the shipping method, shipping rules after the address.
- When it works, set the rule to Active. When you are done testing, click Exit test mode in the rule.
The checkout still shows the old result
Section titled “The checkout still shows the old result”- Use a private (incognito) window. An old cart or a cached checkout can keep the previous state.
- Shopify remembers your last choices. A returning checkout preselects the shipping rate and payment method you picked before. Choose them again (or pick another and back) to see the rule act.
- Change the address. Shipping rates and address conditions update after the address changes.
- Wait a minute after saving. A new or changed rule reaches checkout within moments, but an open checkout tab does not refresh by itself — reload it.
